TRIBUTE TO OUR ANCESTORS JOSEPH & ELLEN MATTHEWS

Our ancestor Joseph Matthews,

with his wife Ellen Cox,

left Galle, Ceylon in 1881

on the passenger ship "Hydaspes".

Listed as Private and Mrs Matthews with 6 children,

arriving at the Port of Melbourne, Victoria on 26 June 1881.

They had 13 children and they were:

Elizabeth, Samuel, Abraham William, Joseph, Charles Kitchener (Twin), George Henry, Rose Ann, Alfred, Nimrod Nelson (Nim), Nelson, Benjamin, Walter, Ernest.

To make their home and our heritage,
For us they faced the unknown,
For us they laboured and toiled,
Their endurance is our prosperity.
Their struggle is our freedom,
Their dream is our reality.
Their dawn is our day,
By reaping the great harvest of their lives and work,
We prosper.
We remember them with our blessings.

2nd Great Granddaughter Angela Matthews.
